Description: Vampire – The Masquerade: Bloodlines — a computer game in the genre of Action/RPG with elements of survival horror and stealth action, developed by Troika Games and released by Activision in 2004. The game is based on tabletop role-playing game “Vampire: The Masquerade”, published by White Wolf Publishing, and its action takes place in the same universe — a World of Darkness, where together with the people, there are vampires, werewolves and other fantastic creatures. During the game the player’s character, a new vampire, investigates the emergence in Los Angeles of an ancient artifact — “Ankara sarcophagus” — and finds himself involved in intrigue of several secret organizations that want to get the sarcophagus. The game provides the player the opportunity to join one of the several vampire clans, differing abilities, and complete quests in various parts of Los Angeles in many different ways during the fighting and a peaceful dialogue with NPCs.
“Bloodlines” was one of the first games released on the Source engine from Valve, simultaneously with the “Half-Life 2”. The development of the game was fraught with many difficulties, and it was released unfinished. The gaming press praised the script and dialogues of the game, as well as high nonlinearity and influence the player’s choices in game, but criticized the technical implementation and numerous bugs. The commercial failure of Bloodlines ultimately led to the bankruptcy of Troika Games.
